Local Things to Plan For in Surfers Paradise

The G:link light rail on Surfers Paradise Boulevard

The G:link has five stations in Surfers Paradise, all along Surfers Paradise Boulevard: Northcliffe, Cavill Avenue, Surfers Paradise, Cypress Avenue and Surfers Paradise North. Queensland road rules make it an offence to stop on a tramway, and vehicles must not stop within 20 metres before a tram-stop sign unless a sign allows it. If your building fronts the Boulevard, the truck usually has to load from a side street, a dock or a signed loading zone. Loading zones and kerbside parking

A truck picking up or dropping off goods can generally stop in a loading zone for up to 30 minutes unless the sign says otherwise. Most apartment moves take longer than that to load, so a building dock or a private driveway is usually the best option. If your building has neither, tell us early. The City of Gold Coast requires an Interference with a Road Permit for activities that occupy a footpath, verge, parking area or traffic lane on a City-managed road, with at least 15 business days' notice for low- or medium-impact activities.

Events and peak periods

Surfers Paradise is the Gold Coast's main entertainment and tourism centre. Major events, school holidays and busy weekends can mean road closures, heavy traffic on the Gold Coast Highway and full car parks. Check City of Gold Coast traffic notices before you lock in a date, and ask us about early starts.

The Esplanade and beachfront towers

Buildings along the Esplanade often have the tightest dock access and the strictest moving hours. Ask building management:

1. What hours and days are moves allowed?
2. Which lift is the goods lift, and can it be padded and booked?

4. Is there a time limit on the dock or lift booking?

We usually drive in via the Smith Street Motorway and Southport, or via the Gold Coast Highway. Without traffic it's about 14 km and 17–20 minutes, but peak traffic and event days can add a lot more. On an hourly rate, an early start often saves you money.
