Can You Really Get a Removalist Today?

Sometimes, yes. It depends on:

• What's already booked. Month-ends, Fridays, weekends and school holidays fill first. Mid-week, mid-month and early or late starts are easier to fit in.
• The size of the job. A unit or a few rooms is easier to fit into a gap than a full four-bedroom house.
• Access. If your building needs a lift booking with 48 hours' notice, a same-day move may not be possible there, even if a truck is free. Check your building's rules first.
• How ready you are. A move where everything is packed and waiting is much easier to schedule at short notice.

The honest answer is: call, and we'll tell you straight away whether we can do it, and when.

What to Send for a Fast Quote

The more we know in the first call or message, the faster we can confirm a time and price. Have this ready:

1. Both addresses (suburbs at least) and the floor level at each.
2. Access: lift, stairs (how many flights), loading dock, driveway or street parking.
3. What's moving: number of bedrooms, plus big items such as fridge, washing machine, king bed, large sofa, piano or pool table.
4. Is it packed? Fully packed, partly packed, or not started.
5. When you need to be out, and when you can get in.
6. Photos. A few quick photos of each room help us judge the truck size.

What a Last-Minute Move Costs

Our published rates are the same rates we use for planned moves: $143 per hour including GST for two movers and a truck, a 2-hour minimum ($286), a compulsory call-out fee based on your suburb and distance from our Arundel depot, $44 per flight of stairs, and extras for pianos, pool tables and marble items. Packing and wrapping are included at no extra service charge. Bookings are secured with a $100 deposit.

Examples (arithmetic only, not quotes):

• Packed one-bedroom unit, lift at both ends, 2 hours: $286 + call-out fee.
• Two-bedroom unit, half packed, 2 flights at pickup, 4 hours: (4 × $143 = $572) + (2 × $44 = $88) = $660 + call-out fee.

Your 24-Hour Moving Plan

Right now (the first hour)

• Call to lock in a crew. Get the date, arrival time and price confirmed.
• Book the lift or dock at both buildings, if you're in an apartment. Ask building management what's possible at short notice.
• Tell your agent or landlord your plans for keys and the exit inspection.

The next few hours

• Get boxes. Supermarkets, bottle shops and hardware stores are fast sources. Packing and wrapping are included with your booked move, so tell us how much you'd like us to pack and what materials you need.
• Pack in priority order: first the essentials bag (documents, medication, chargers, keys, a change of clothes, toiletries, phone charger, pet food), then the kitchen, then the rest room by room.
• Don't pack everything perfectly. Label boxes by room. Speed matters more than neatness.

The night before (or the morning of)

• Empty and defrost the fridge. Use an esky for anything you're keeping.
• Disconnect and drain the washing machine.
• Take beds apart if you can, and bag and tape the screws to the frame.
• Clear a path from each room to the door, and a spot for the truck to park.

Moving day

• Walk the crew through what's going and what's staying.
• Keep valuables and the essentials bag with you, not on the truck.
• Check every room, cupboard, the garage and the yard before the truck leaves.

If There Isn't Time to Move Everything

Sometimes the honest answer is that a full move can't happen in the time you have. If so, split it into what must go today and what can go later:

• Must go first: beds, the fridge and its contents, kids' and pets' essentials, work equipment, and anything the landlord or buyer needs gone by handover.
• Can wait: spare-room furniture, boxed books and décor, garage items, and outdoor furniture. Ask whether these can go into storage between moves or be collected on a second, planned trip.
• Can go to charity or the tip: things you were going to get rid of anyway. Don't pay to move them under pressure.

Ways to save time when every hour counts: - Put all boxes in one room near the door, so the crew isn't walking the whole house. - Leave clothes on hangers and use wardrobe boxes or bags, rather than folding everything. - Take photos of how your TV and computer are connected before you unplug them. - Use bin bags for soft items like linen, pillows and towels. They're quick, light and fine for soft things (not fragile ones). - Have one person at each address directing where things go.

A rushed move can still be a careful one. Furniture is still wrapped in moving blankets and strapped in the truck, whatever the timeline.
